SESSION: Ghost Venue

“Soothing samples with modern beats & smashing synths” is how Copenhagen based electronic act Ghost Venue (Theodor Storm Kristensen/Benjamin Fischermann) describe themselves, mixing from genres such as soul, RnB, jazz, hip hop, funk, a range of world music and mashes them together with youthful force comparable to acts like DJ Shadow, RJD2, Blockhead etc. Debut album ‘Looking Back On Broken Pieces’ was released in the latter part of 2012 (and is available as a free download HERE!)
They stormed the Apollo stage at Roskilde Festival in the warm up days to a packed crowd, now you can reminisce that Wednesday evening as the sun is setting across festival grounds as the sounds of Ghost Venue are drifting across Dream City.

SESSION: The Woken Trees

Six piece The Woken Trees formed 2010 in their hometown of Tversted (North Jutland, Denmark) as a group of childhood friends, they soon relocated to Copenhagen where they took over an abandoned house outside the city to rehearse and develop their sound.
The debut album “NNON” was written in 2011/2012 and recorded in late spring 2012. In the summer 2012 the band signed with Pad & Pen Records and the mixing and mastering began. October 2012, the single Yells B/W Holy Water was released which is now followed up by the full album co-released by Fuzz Club Records and Pad & Pen Records in March 2013.
The band will be playing this years Roskilde Festival on the Pavilion Junior Stage 17:30 on 03.07.2013

SESSION: Shout Out Louds

Sweden has a rich history for producing some of the worlds most influential pop music, Shout Out Louds are a band that have developed their sound to rival some of the best indie pop music to come out of the country and establish themselves internationally. The band formed in their hometown of Stockholm as a group of childhood friends Adam Olenius (vocals/guitar), Ted Malmros (bass/guitar), Carl Von Arbin (guitar) and in 2001 completed that line up when Eric Edman (drummer) and Bebban Stenborg (vocals/keys) joined. They found success in their home country in 2003 with debut release Howl Howl Gaff Gaff (which was later released internationally a couple years later in 2005), the band spent the next year touring and hit the States with The Dears boosting the bands profile State side. Their follow up album Our Ill Wills was released in 2007 and to date is their most successful album in both Swedish and aboard. After a short hiatus they returned to studio in Seattle with producer Phil Ek (The Shins, Band Of Horses, Fleet Foxes etc) the outcome 2010’s Work. Their most recent album Optica was released in 2013, they gave Here Today a taste…..

SESSION: Ghost Venue
SESSION: Egyptian Hip Hop

Manchester based Egyptian Hip Hop formed in late 2008, the band attracted attention early on from major UK music publications such as NME, The Fly and Q after extensively playing venues in their home town. In December 2009, they released single ‘Rad Pit’ as a free download on an NME mixtape featuring hotly tipped acts of 2010. Spring 2010 saw them release ‘Wild Human Child’ and ‘Heavenly’ as a double A side, between this they featured at several UK festivals and also played support slots with Girls and Ariel Pinks Haunted Graffiti. They released single ‘SYH’ in the lead up to their debut album ‘Good Don’t Sleep’ in October 2012 released on R&S Records.

For the past 10 years, Jacob Bellens has been at the forefront of the Danish music scene earning a great reputation with duo-project Murder, fronting I Got You On Tape (see I Got You On Tape’s session here) along with several external collaborations. His signature is his strong, deeply emotional vocal performances, coupled with highly poetic lyrics and tightly calibrated musical arrangements. He recently released his debut solo album ‘The Daisy Age’ receiving critical acclaim in Danish media. On a blustery/chilly Saturday morning in Copenhagen he came and performed lead single ‘Heart Of Africa’ from ‘The Daisy Age’ and also gave us a sneak preview of things to come with two new tracks, ‘Another Lung’ and ‘Northern Lights’.

Bands to catch at SPOT Festival 2014
SESSION: Shiny Darkly

Copenhagen post rock quartet Shiny Darkly first came to the fore front of the Danish music scene in the spring of 2012 after releasing their 6 track debut EP ‘Shiny Darkly‘ on Crunchy Frog Recordsand playing a set at Roskilde Festival 2012. Their influences are heavily leaning towards late 70’s/early 80’s post rock, particularly Joy Division/The Jesus and Mary Chain. 2013 sees them going to the USA to play showcases at SXSW and the Canadian Music Festival. We expect their debut album in the latter part of the year.

Energetic post punk/synth pop duo Reptile Youth formed in Aarhus back in 2009 (now based in Copenhagen). Since then they’ve toured Europe and Asia extensively building hype around their intense live performances. Their critically acclaimed self titled debut album ‘Reptile Youth’ was released in the fall of 2012 on HFN and are set to continue wreaking havoc across Europe, North and Central America in 2013 stopping off at SXSW (US), Marvin Festival (MEX), New Blood Festival(UK), Smuk Festival (DK) to name a few…….

SESSION: The Luyas

Out of the bustling music scene of Montreal comes indie-rocker’s The Luyas. Their debut album ‘Faker Death’ was released in 2007 on Pome Records (You’ve Changed Records). In the summer of 2010 the band signed to Dead Oceans Records after Pome disbanded. They released their follow up album ‘Too Beautiful To Work‘ in February 2011, for which they recieved a Polaris Music Prize shortlist nomination. The band switched to Paper Bag Records for their third album release ‘Animator‘ in October 2012. We caught them while touring with fellow Canadians Destroyer on their short European tour in support of ‘Animator’.

Mac DeMarco started up his solo venture as a bedroom project after moving to Montreal, Canada. Labeled as “slacker rock” (or “jizz jazz”) he first grabbed the attention of media with his debut EP ‘Rock and Roll Night Club’ (April 2012) released on Captured Tracks, who were impressed by his debut and decided to release a full length album ‘2’ in the fall of 2012. ‘2’ was recieved well by critics, scoring 8.2 in Pitchfork and claiming ‘Best New Music’.
